The Inner Light

For Quakers what is experienced in our hearts and minds is more important than anything preached from a pulpit.

The concept of the Inner Light is the very centre of Quaker faith. It states that in every human soul there is implanted a certain element of God's own Spirit or, in the words of John 1:9, "the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world".

For this reason Quakers do not separate religious life and secular life; all life should be "lived in the spirit".
